AC FAQ: What Are the Coils?

Monday, August 20th, 2018

evaporator-coilDifferent homeowners have different levels of familiarity with their air conditioning systems. Some are content just knowing their ACs will cool the air when the heat of summer strikes, though they are not too concerned with the details. Others like to be a bit more hands-on with their air conditioners—too hands-on, in some cases. We believe the happy medium lies somewhere in between. We don’t expect you to be experts, but we also think it is in every homeowner’s best interest to have a basic understanding of how their systems work.

We want to take the opportunity today to discuss an important component in everyone’s air conditioning system. Two components, actually: the evaporator and condenser coils. Without the proper functioning of these coils, an air conditioner is not going to effectively and efficiently condition the air in your home! So let’s take a look at what the coils do and why issues with them may require professional air conditioning repair in Voorhees, NJ.

Why Does My AC Keep Shutting Down So Quickly?

Monday, July 23rd, 2018

woman-with-fanDang, my AC has shut down again. That’s annoying. Oh well, it will start back up in a minute, no big deal.

If you find yourself experiencing this particular issue when cooling your home, do not downplay it and write it off as nothing more than a minor annoyance. The problem has a name—short cycling—and it is far more serious than many homeowners seem to realize. There are quite a few reasons why you may experience this problem.

We are not alarmists, but we also have a responsibility to our customers. That includes ensuring that they understand just what is at stake when faced with any particular problem. Not every issue leading to short cycling has the potential to do serious damage to your air conditioner, though at least one poses a serious threat. And, whatever the precise cause of the problem, short cycling itself will do damage over time. Here’s why you may need professional air conditioning service.

Why Is My AC Leaking Water?

Monday, July 9th, 2018

man-with-fanIn our last post, we talked about refrigerant leaks and why they are such a problem. We’ve previously discussed the (unfortunately pervasive) issue of leaky ductwork on our blog. Today, we are going to talk about a different type of leak in your AC. The water leak! Confused? If so, then you have every right to be. After all, you may well know that your air conditioner does not actually use any water in its operation, and it does not have a water supply piped to it.

Does this mean that you are imagining the sight of water surrounding your indoor unit (or the feeling of wet socks on your feet!)? Of course not. It does mean, however, that this is not really a “water leak” in the way that you are thinking of it. Fortunately for you, our Pennsauken, NJ HVAC pros are here to shed some light on the matter. Be sure to contact a member of our team with any questions that you may have, or if AC repairs are ever needed.

Why Refrigerant Leaks Are a Major Concern

Monday, May 28th, 2018

AC-tools-on-topYour air conditioner does not somehow generate coolness, the way that your furnace or boiler generates heat via electric resistance or the combustion of fuel. Instead, that coolness that you are feeling is really the absence of heat. Your air conditioner removes heat from the air in order to cool it down before recirculating that air throughout your home. The refrigerant in your air conditioning system plays a vital role in this process and, without a proper refrigerant charge, your air conditioner will be in serious trouble.

Today we are going to discuss how refrigerant works in your air conditioning system, as well as some ways in which you can spot signs of trouble with your air conditioner that could be related to refrigerant leaks. The moment that you do, give us a call. Refrigerant leaks can, unfortunately, do very real damage to your AC in very short order. Prompt AC repairs in Cherry Hill, NJ are definitely in your best interest.
